We are building a licensed childcare centre at 976 Stone Church Rd E in Hamilton. This page is where we post what has actually happened on site, so families on our waitlist can follow along rather than wonder.

Interior fit-out under way

Work continues on the interior of 976 Stone Church Rd E as we prepare the space for licensing. The building's bones are in good shape, so most of this stage is about turning it into rooms that work for children.

  • Room layouts finalised for the toddler and preschool spaces
  • Plumbing rough-in progressing, including child-height fixtures
  • Working with the City on the service connection at the property line
  • Lighting plan revised for softer, warmer program rooms

The space

Two licensed program rooms, sized to the age groups we serve. Capacities below are the daily licensed maximums we are building toward.

Toddler Room

Approximately 18 months to 2.5 years

10 children daily

Its own washroom, a change table and an elevated play space with storage beneath. Set up for children who are still finding their feet.

Preschool Room

Approximately 2.5 to 6 years

16 children daily

The largest space in the building, with its own washroom and an elevated play space. Room to build, spread out and work on longer projects.

Ontario sets a minimum amount of unobstructed floor space per child, and both of our rooms are sized comfortably above it. Those numbers are what each room licenses for, not how many children we would like to fit.

Floor plan of the Give Me A Break centre The main entrance leads into an entry at the north-west corner, with a staff washroom behind it. The preschool room, for up to 16 children, wraps the west and south of the building and contains an elevated play space with storage beneath. A central block holds the preschool washroom, which has a wall-mounted change table, and the smaller toddler washroom. The toddler room, for up to 10 children, occupies the east side and has its own elevated play space. Stairs lead down along the far east wall. The property

A heavily treed corner lot, most of it open ground, which is what makes the outdoor space possible.
