What on-demand care is.
On-demand care is one of the things that makes GMAB different. It is flexible childcare you can book when you need it, rather than on a fixed weekly schedule. Whether it is an appointment, a work commitment, an errand, or simply a day when you need a hand, on-demand care is here for the moments real life throws at you. Spaces are offered based on availability, and we recommend booking ahead when you can.
Who it is for.
Sometimes parents need childcare because they have somewhere to be, and sometimes they simply need a break. GMAB was created to support both. Families use on-demand care for:
- Medical and personal appointments
- Work commitments or a change in schedule
- Interviews and training
- Running errands
- Self-care and wellness
- Family events and special occasions
- Date nights and social outings
- Unexpected childcare needs
- The times when a regular schedule just is not needed

Children in on-demand care take part in the same high-quality early learning program as our full-time and part-time children. Depending on the time of day, that can include indoor and outdoor play, creative and sensory experiences, stories, music and movement, meals and snacks, and child-led learning alongside other children. Whether your child comes for two hours, a single day, or on a regular schedule, they are a valued member of our learning community. On-demand care is a safe, nurturing place where children play, learn, explore, and build relationships with caring educators, not simply a place to be watched.
When it is available.
On-demand care is available during our regular operating hours: Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. We are closed on statutory holidays. Because spaces are based on availability, advance booking is recommended. Please contact us for current availability and booking options.
Booking ahead, or on short notice.
GMAB was created to support families when they need care most. We recommend booking in advance whenever possible, but we know unexpected situations come up. You are welcome to book ahead or request care on short notice, and same-day booking may be available depending on space and staffing. We will always do our best to accommodate your family's needs.
Is there a minimum booking?
On-demand care has a two-hour minimum. We have found that a two-hour visit gives children enough time to settle in, get comfortable, and enjoy playing and learning. You are welcome to book longer based on your needs and the space available.

Jacqueline Barnett is a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) with the College of Early Childhood Educators. After 35+ years working with children, including roles as a program facilitator and kindergarten educator with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board, she built Give Me A Break to solve what she calls "the problem of flexible, reliable, trustworthy childcare."
Simple, prepaid pricing
On-demand care is $18 to $20 per hour, with a two-hour minimum. All bookings are prepaid. Package options are coming soon. Contact us for current rates and to book.
